World Soil Day celebrated

World Soil Day was celebrated with farmers on 5th December, 2024 in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture at the Kanjikuzhy Panchayath Community Hall. Smt. Rajani Ravipalan, Standing Committee Chairperson, Kanjikuzhy Grama Panchayath inaugurated the programme and handed over soil health cards to partner farmers.  Dr. K. Sajnanath, SMS (Soil Science), KVK addressed the participants highlighting the importance of the celebration with this year’s theme ‘Caring for soils: measure, monitor, manage’.  He emphasized the importance of accurate soil data and information for understanding soil characteristics and informed decision making for sustainable soil management for food security and the responsibility of each citizen on preserving a healthy soil for future generations. Soil health cards were distributed to selected 25 farmers on the occasion, followed by an awareness programme on importance of plant nutrition for quality farm produce. About 30 persons including officials participated in the programme.

                Dr. P. Muralidharan, Head, KVK participated as a lead speaker in the National Seminar on “Soil Security: Challenges and Strategies” organized by College of Agriculture, Padannakkad, KAU on the ‘World Soil Day’ on 5th December, 24. He delivered a lead talk on the theme ‘Climate change and soil security’ and served as an evaluator for the oral and digital poster presentations made by about 30 scientists and scholars from all over the country in the seminar.
