The KVK provided one week training in coconut product diversification to 12 members of Sreedhurga women SHG of Koippallikarazhma in 2007. The knowledge and skill gained motivated the group to start a coconut processing unit under the leadership of Ms. Sreekala, Puthussereth. A self reliant unit that used coconut from their own homesteads for processing into value added traditional products like virgin coconut oil, chutney powder, coconut oil, coconut oil based wafers and rice/coconut based bakery products, has wide acceptance among the public. Run on sustainable profits, they have diversified into order based production of coconut and rice products for rituals also. It proves the potential of microenterprises in value addition to provide sustainable income and employment for rural women.
