ICAR-KVK-Alappuzha celebrated ‘World Soil Day’ at Mararikulam South Panchayath
‘Maintaining the soil and water resources in healthy condition by following good agricultural practices for productivity enhancement and a healthy society’ is the need of the hour. This message was conveyed in the ‘World Soil Day celebrations’ organized by the ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra –Alappuzha at Mararikulam South. Smt. Indira Thilakan, President, Mararikulam South Gramapanchayath inaugurated the programme and distributed soil health cards to farmers. Soil health cards were prepared by analyzing representative geo-referenced soil samples from all the 23 wards of Mararikulam South Gramapanchayath in the KVK laboratory. Fertilizer recommendations based on the soil test for the major crops like coconut, banana, tubers, and turmeric were worked out and provided in the soil health cards ready for distribution to 250 farmers of the panchayath. Sri. A.S. Jayamohan, Chairam, Panchayath Welfare Standing Committee, Smt. Smitha and Smt. Shari Agricultural Assistants, Krishi Bhavan, Sri. R.D Subramanian, President, Kalavoor Coconut Producers’ Federation, Sri. V. C. Das, President, Mararikulam South farm club and Sri. K.P. Gopinatha Panicker, Secretary, Mararikulam South farm club, addressed the farmers on the occassion. An awareness talk on ‘Healthy soil for a healthy life’ was delivered by Dr. P. Muralidharan, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR KVK – Alappuzha. Dr. K. Sajnanath, Smt. G. Lekha and Sri. T. Sivakumar, SMSs, KVK participated in the discussions followed. 75 farmers from all wards of the panchayath attended the programme.
