PMFBY  awareness programme by ICAR-KVK-Alappuzha

    ICAR-KVK-Alappuzha organized a Farmers’ Meet and Agricultural Exhibition in connection with the awareness programme on “Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana” (PMFBY) at Angel King Auditorium, Pathirappally, Alappuzha on 20.06.2016. The district level programme was inaugurated by Shri K C Venugopal, Hon’ble MP, Alappuzha. District Panchayath Vice President, Smt. Daleema Jojo presided over the function. Shri K C Venugopal in his inaugural address emphasised on the importance of converging new agricultural technologies to help farmers to improve their income and livelihood and wished that more crops especially coconut and spice crops which are important in Kerala added under the new insurance scheme. He requested the farmers to utilize the benefits of all schemes so that they won’t suffer in adverse conditions and urged the insurane companies to settle the claims of the farmes at the earliest and in a hassle free manner. Dr. P Chowdappa, Director, ICAR-CPCRI, explained various projects implemented by CPCRI for the benefit of farmers. The latest issue of KVK newsletter and a CPCRI centenary series booklet on “Scientific fodder cultivation” were released by the chief guest on the occasion.

        Shri Thomas Joseph (Chairman, Alappuzha Municipality), Smt. Indira Thilakan (President, Mararikulam South Grama Panchayath), Smt. Thankamany Gopinath (President, Mannanchery Grama Panchayath), Dr. V Krishnakumar (Head, ICAR-CPCRI, Kayamkulam), Dr. P Muralidharan (Head, ICAR-KVK-Alappuzha), and Smt. T K Anikumary (Deputy Director, Dairy Develpment Department) also addressed the farmers in the inaugural function.

            The agricultural seminar followed had different sessions as follows:-

  1. PMFBY : Features and benefits
  2. Integrated Pest Management in coconut
  3. New technologies for dairy farming and schemes of Dairy Development Department.

The sessions were handled by resource persons from Agricultural Insurance Company of India, IFFCO, Dairy Development Department and KVK.

More than 300 persons from across the district including farmers, farm women, rural youth, office bearers of farmers’ organisations, SHG members, extension officials, and Panchayath Raj Institution members actively participated in the programme.

Various agricultural technologies suitable for the district based on the experience of KVK were exhibited/demonstrated in the form of panels, models, and equipments/machineries in the exhibition arranged on the occasion. Individuals and SHG entrepreneurs who have established their units after obtaining training and technical support from the KVK also took part in the exhibition and displayed their products.
