ICAR –KVK-Alappuzha facilitated farmers of Muttar for a greener village
‘Haritha Sobha’, a unique programme for planting a variety of fruit and foliage tree plants in more than 300 households of Muttar village was launched as part of the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project implemented by ICAR-KVK-Alappuzha. While inaugurating the programme on 25.10.2016 at Kochukodungalloor devaswam hall in Muttar, Shri. K. K. Ashokan, Standing committee chairman, Alappuzha district panchayath said planting of tree crops will reduce the ill effects of global warming and reduce the leaching loss during monsoon floods. He also highlighted that the successful interventions by ICAR- KVK Alappuzha like resource conserving technologies in paddy, model dairy units, recycling of organic wastes, and EM composting of water weeds etc., made significant impact in Muttar panchayath and he will take initiative to spread these technologies to different parts of the district through district panchayath programmes. A set of six plants including Mango graft, Jack graft, Rose wood, Guava, Curry leaf and Neermaruthu were provided to 300 households of the panchayath as part of the programme. The programme was attended by Muttar Panchayath President Shri Mathukutty Eappen, and Gramapanchayath members Shri. M. K. Joseph, Shri D. Joseph, Shri. Mathukutty, Smt. Rejimol Purushothaman, Smt. Sobha Mohan, and Smt. Jaya Sathyan. Dr.P. Muralidharan, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK-Alappuzha, Shri. Sreekumara Panikkar, Agricultural Officer, Muttar, and Shri. Rajeev M S, Subject Matter Specialist, ICAR-KVK-Alappuzha, addressed the farmers on the occasion. More than 200 farmers from all parts of the panchayath attended the programme and carried the plants for planting in their homesteads.
